Its capital is Bratislava, a small historical city, but the largest in Slovakia. The Slovak Republic came into existence on January 1, 1993. However, Slovaks have existed as a unique entity for about 1500 years. In fact, the oldest surviving archeological artifacts from Slovakia date back to 270,000 BC.
